Cabernet Sauvignon
Cab is King in California. In fact, since the era of Robert Mondavi, Central Valley growers have sold and shipped their cabernet sauvignon to Napa Valley. As a winemaker or producer, how can it not be appealing to purchase the grapes that have contributed to some of the best California wines in the World? *We have 40 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon that are certified sustainable under Lodi Rules.*
Cabernet Franc
There is a reason these grapes are used in some of the most infamous Bordeaux blends. Central Valley Cab Franc is truly a gift from the Grape Gods in California. In 2019, Cab Franc grapes were still tasty as ever after the “end of harvest” in October.
merlot
The warmth of the Central Valley does increase the strength of tannins in merlot, but then again, that is what makes it an excellent blending grape. However, California Merlot is great as a stand alone variety for winemakers to use.
syrah
Central Valley Syrah grapes have dark skins that create rich tannic wines with flavors of plum and spice. It is a variety that has become popular in California as a stand alone variety, but still always a solid choice for blends.
Petite sirah
For high tannins and acidity, Petite Sirah is a grape used for blends or as a single variety wine. It produces a rich and bold flavor in wine and can withstand hot summers. Central Valley grapes get a cool night breeze that slows down the ripening, especially in West Lodi and Clarksburg AVAs.
