Grandpa’s Vineyard, Old Vine Zinfandel
For Fans of The big and Bold
Our 66 year old Old Vine Zinfandel is certified sustainable under Lodi Rules. Old Vine Zinfandel was the very first grape variety planted by many farmers in the Central Valley. Decades after being planted, yields on this variety are still prosperous.
Behind the Stokes Family’s very first family home on Ray Road is still 30 acres of Old Vine Zin that is cordon trained in West Lodi. Lodi farmers grow OVZ on both the East and West side giving different characteristics. With the help of the Delta breeze in West Lodi, OVZ grapes ripen early and unevenly giving notes of red and black fruit. However, in East Lodi, the help of restrictive clay soils give riper red fruit notes with higher residual sugar.
